Soft shades and pastels are often a fresh way to to inject subtle colour into your wardrobe – especially in Summer as they scream gelato tones and remind us of a Summer’s day running around in a floral field or licking an ice cream ocean side.

However, many people can find pastels harder to wear and often discount them all together. When you find the correct shade and wear it to suit your complexion it can look amazing and in this article we are going to teach you how to wear them!

It’s not about finding a shade you love and just wearing it. No, it is about finding the shade that loves you.

First up you need to determine what type of pastel suits you. Pastels can range from chalky, muted and dusty to clear, icy and intense shades. To determine this you can either consult a colour analysis or do the “Mirror Trick”.

The Mirror Trick

Look in a mirror, close your eyes, hold the colour up to your face and open your eyes. If the colour is correct, you should notice your face, eyes and your complexion first – you will look healthy and uplifted. If the colour is wrong you can look flat, drained and your eyes will be drawn to the colour itself.

Once you determine what type of pastel you need the next big step is determining how you wear it. Some people suit tone on tone and low contrast combinations and others suit high contrast combinations.

If you feel a little washed out in the softer colours, chances are, you need to create some high contrast or strength too your overall look – this can be achieved with: a darker hair colour, contrasting accessories, intense make up or other clothing items that give your pastel more depth.

TIP: a dark denim is a great way to create high contrast to a pastel hue while keeping the outfit casual.

If low contrast combinations are more your vibe, opt for a lighter denim with your softer shades and keep everything harmonious and tonal.

Have fun with these pretty tones and mix and match them together, accessorise a neutral or wear a pastel head to toe. No matter how you decide to play with these delicate hues one thing is for certain – your wardrobe will feel instantly fresh and Spring ready.

Vibrantly yours,
